Hello world! =)

Hello there people...Gecko is still alive! I know from the huge gap in posts (*gasp* 4 months since my last!!) you probably would've thought otherwise but no, here she is ... happy and almost healthy.  :)

Well I have been a naughty blogger haven't I! It's good to see thought that I do have 4 followers, hanging on faithfully (you poor things!), and I thank them very dearly! Hmm, now...what's been happening in the past four or so months? Even longer I suppose, since I was pretty terrible to the blog beforehand.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is that in August, my place of work burnt down. And contrarory to the countless jokes I've had thrown my way, no...I was not out the back smoking when it went up, and yes, whilst I was out partying hard, no...I did not sneak the two hour round trip to light it up so I didn't have to go to work the next morning. ;D

Ahh there's been plenty of rumours flying around, I guess it's only natural when such a shocking event happens that people's minds and imaginations go into over-drive and they start thinking it was Aliens or some dark, dark force cometh down upon our great earth...or, maybe just someone trying to cash in on insurance, but the sad truth it, not a single person in the world benefited much from it burning down.

Yes, this is what my work now looks like. Slightly hazardous work conditions don't you think?

So Gecko was out of a job. Luckily I was already doubting how long I would have that job for so I started saving my income...so I had enough to get me through the next month, until I got a new job. It's not much, but I now have a one-day per week job at a 'local' horse farm. I saw 'local' because it's an hour drive one-way. I always thought I'd love working with horses, I studied them for a year, then did another intense 8 week foaling course...but the reality is I hate it. No offence to any Thoroughbred breeders/riders/owners out there, but I don't agree with a lot of the practices used. I know why they're being done, and can understand it all, but it goes against a lot of the things I believe in when working with animals.

But that's doing me fine for now, the money is fantastic and although it's only 8 hours a week, it's enough to get me through the week. But what I'm really holding out for is the opening of a new place, that's replacing my old work. The owner is a very good friend of ours, and my family has been doing business with her and her husband for many years. They were expecting to open in December, but that's been pushed back to February because they don't want to open in the middle of the busiest time of the year! I've got a garunteed job there so I'm really looking forward to having a solid job that I'm sure I'll love, and of course having a reliable steady income would help!! They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone, and boy oh boy is it true or what!!! I used to whinge about working with the public, and people would always say I'm really good with them...now I realise just how much I really enjoyed it! I'll still be working with horses, but I'll stick to my faithful Australian Stock Horses thankyou very much. ;D

Well that's probably enough flooding for today, until tomorrow (I promise!! :P)!!

Ellie and the new bub

This morning when I was leaving for work I saw a black 'cow' laying down with a little calf lying next to it. I thought, 'oh goodie! Another new arrival!' As I whipped out the camera and got closer, this is what I found...not a mother but a teenage babysitter!!!

Remember Turkey?

Do you remember Turkey???
She remembers YOU!!!
"foooooood??"
"Omnomnomn...human! I haven't had this for months!!!"
Turkey has been turned out to one of the big paddocks for a few months now, we've since weaned her calf and she should be pregnant with another one. This morning when I was feeding up she must have had a flashback and came around to say hello...and to see if I had any food of course! Notice the rest of the herd followed her? And they say sheep are bad!

First baby of the year!!!

"Doh!"
"Steady....."
"Wooohoo!"
"Oh...hi!"
This bub was born sometime during the night, I'm not sure if it's a boy or girl yet. We literally brought the mum in a few days ago, so it was a close one!!!
