Today I'd like to introduce you to Amber. =) When she was a couple of weeks old (about two years ago), she turned up at the house all by herself. We had no idea where she had come from, because the paddock around the house only had young heifer in it, so none of them had obviously given birth to her. We brought her in and reared her 'on the bottle' (no...not alcohol!), followed by 'on the bucket'. Anyway not that how she got it mattered much, she was obviously a potty calf so we became her mummy. A couple of days later we found her mum dead up another paddock. She had simply fallen in an awkward position and no-one found her until it was too late. Amber, the little fighter had wandered close to 2kms, luckily for her in the right direction, and in that 2km even had to get through a fence!!
Now, 2 years later, she's ready to give birth to her own little baby. She's tame, and you can walk up to her in the paddock and pat her. In this photo she's looking at me asking, "what's that silly black thing you're holding up to your eye??"

I'm not sure if you can see properly in this photo, but she has made up a little bit of milk. But the white calf I posted photos of yesterday has been sneaking in and stealing some by the looks of it...two teats are empty and look sucked, but the other two haven't been. Calves can be sneaky at times!!
